Local fun runs, charity walks and fitness events coming up
Santa Ana residents have multiple opportunities this month to join organized runs and walks that combine movement with community support.
How we reported this

Three fitness events open for registration this week in Santa Ana, with the first scheduled for July 19 along the Santa Ana River Trail.
Group activities like these draw steady local turnout each summer as residents seek structured ways to exercise outdoors before peak afternoon heat sets in. City recreation staff noted that sign-ups for similar events rose 18 percent from the same period last year, reflecting continued interest in low-cost community programs rather than gym memberships.
Routes through established neighborhoods
The July 19 5K starts at 7:30 a.m. from Centennial Park on West 1st Street and follows the river trail south to the bridge near Edinger Avenue. A separate charity walk on July 27 begins at the Santa Ana Public Library branch on Civic Center Drive and loops through the French Park neighborhood before returning for a post-event stretch session. Both events are organized with the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Department and the local chapter of the American Heart Association.
Entry fees start at $25 for adults and $12 for participants under 18, with proceeds directed to youth sports scholarships and heart-health education in Santa Ana schools. Organizers cap the July 19 run at 650 participants to keep the course manageable on the shared trail path.
Next steps for sign-up
Registration remains open online through the city website until July 15 for the first event and until July 22 for the walk. Paper forms are also available at the front desk of the main library branch on Civic Center Drive. Participants are advised to arrive 30 minutes early for check-in and to bring a refillable water bottle, as aid stations will be spaced every mile.
