Santa Ana Road Repairs Begin 2027 Under California Infrastructure Bill

Assembly Bill 782 directs state transportation funds to cities across California, with the first disbursements scheduled for July 2027. Santa Ana stands to receive allocations for pavement resurfacing on major corridors such as Fourth Street and Bristol Boulevard plus expanded bus routes operated by the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The measure passed the state legislature in June 2026 after budget negotiations that tied new revenues from vehicle registration fees to local projects. Santa Ana officials had submitted project lists to the California Transportation Commission in March, placing the city in line for work that addresses aging streets last resurfaced in 2014.

Local Effects on Daily Travel and Costs

Residents who commute along Harbor Boulevard or use Route 55 bus lines will encounter construction zones beginning in late 2027. The legislation states that 60 percent of funds must support transit improvements, which the Orange County Transportation Authority projects will add 12 daily trips on existing routes serving Santa Ana neighborhoods east of the Santa Ana River.

City budget documents show Santa Ana expects $8.4 million in the first year of funding. That amount covers an estimated 4.2 miles of street rehabilitation and two new bus shelters at the Main Street and Civic Center stops.

The California Transportation Commission will release detailed project lists by December 2026. Local advocates note that Santa Ana must complete environmental reviews before crews can start work, a process the legislation requires to finish by June 2027.
